In Feb. 2011, Hubei Province announced the list of talents for the first “Hundred Talents Program” that introduces overseas high-level professionals. A total of 30 experts were selected. HC Semitek’s President Dr. Liu Rong and Vice President Dr. Wei Shizhen were both included in the list, and were awarded the honorary title of “Hubei Distinguished Expert”. This amply demonstrates HC Semitek’s strength as a “powerhouse of talents”.
The “Hundred Talents Program” is an important measure the Provincial Government of Hubei Province to introduce overseas talents. It plans to introduce about 100 overseas high-level innovative and entrepreneurial professionals urgently needed by Hubei province in 5 years or so starting from 2009. Each professional introduced will receive funding support ranging from 500,000 yuan to 1 million yuan.
Dr. Liu Rong graduated from Arizona State University with a major in materials science and engineering. As an expert in GaN-based LED materials and device physics, he was involved in the founding of HC Semitek and has been serving as the company’s president since the end of 2007. Dr. Wei Shizhen graduated from National Cheng Kung University with a major in microelectronics engineering. In 1998, he embarked on R&D and mass production of LED epitaxial wafers in the optoelectronics sector. He is an expert in LED epitaxial technology introduced by the company. He received funding under the first “3551 Talents Program” by East Lake High-tech Development Zone.
